- An Escape to Poovar Island
Poovar Island is a renowned fishing village that features charming beaches, swaying coconut trees and ageless structures that have stood the test of time. Its postcard beauty combined with the serenity of nature creates a warm embrace that can thoroughly satiate solo travellers as well as families.
The island is located on the southernmost tip of Kerala and was once renowned as a major shipping port in India, exporting timber, ivory, spices and more. In the erstwhile times, warships that accompanied the trading ships used to drop anchor at Vizhinjam, a natural deep-sea harbour, while the trading ships went to the nearby ports to pick up the merchandise from local traders. The warships would then accompany the trading ships on the journey as they had to pass through Vizhinjam on their way back.
