Mussoorie, also known as Queen of Hills, with its green hills and varied flora & fauna, is a fascinating hill resort. Commanding snow ranges to the north-east, and glittering views of the Doon Valley & Shiwalik ranges in the south, the town presents a fairyland atmosphere to the tourists. It is famous for its scenic beauty and hectic social life. It provides all kinds of amusement and every facility for domestic and foreign tourists and is the 'Gateway' to Yamunotri and Gangotri Shrines of Northern India. Gun Hill being the second highest peak of Mussoorie offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges namely Bunderpoonch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri Group to name the few. During pre-independence days a Gun mounted on this top used to be fired at mid-day to enable people to adjust their watches and hence this name. It can be reached by the Ropeway ride whose distance is 400 meters or by the bridle path, which forks-off from Kutchery and takes about twenty minutes. Kempty Falls are located 15 Kms from Mussoorie on way to Yamunotri having an altitude of 1370 mtrs. It has a distinction of being the biggest and prettiest waterfall located in a beautiful valley and is surrounded by high mountains. A bath at the foot of the fall is an enjoyable and unforgettable experience during summer days. Lake Mist is on Mussoorie-Kempty road and it is a newly developed good picnic spot with accommodation and restaurant facilities; boating is also available here. The Bhatta Falls is located in a village nearby and is an ideal place for bathing and having picnic. The Municipal Garden is another well-known picnic spot having a beautiful garden and an artificial mini lake with paddled boating facility. The best known lake is however the Mussoorie Lake a man made structure situated on Mussoorie-Dehradun road. An ideal place for boating, the place offers paid pedaled boats. It offers enchanting views of Doon Valley and nearby villages. The views during the night are particularly rewarding. A famous walking esplanade is the Camel's Back Road. This road begins from the Rink at Kulri Bazar and terminates at Library Bazar having a distance of 3 Kms. The road is named after the Camel rock with a life like resemblance and can be seen from Mussoorie Public School. British graveyard having ancient graves on the way provides new dimension to the walk. Horse riding and walking during evening is a memorable experience as it offers a sunset view in the Himalayas. Amongst the religious site the Nag Devta Temple is the most famous. An ancient temple dedicated to Snake God Lord Shiva and is situated on Cart Mackenjee road and is on way to Dehradun. Vehicles can go right upto the temple. The place provides an enchanting view of Mussoorie & Doon valley.
